How to Maximize your ROE

How can we, as women, choose to integrate our lives to provide us access to a “feeling” of more time, more happiness, more joy, more satisfaction?

One way we can do this is by maximizing our Return on Energy (ROE). We put so much effort into every day, so instead of trying to put more energy out, we’re going to try and get more from the energy we already spend.

The key to maximizing your ROE is through integrating your priorities. Now it’s important to note that integrating things in your life isn’t actually going to give you more hours in the day, but it will take the stop/start energy of a balancing act and convert it into a smooth flow of energy.

Also, integration is not merely “multi-tasking.” Multi-tasking drains your energy by constantly requiring that you balance different priorities. Integration, if done properly, can actually improve your energy.

Right about now you are probably saying, OK…but HOW do I do it? The critical component for maximizing your ROE is “being present.” When you are present in any moment or circumstance you can see the opportunities for integration: they emerge and show themselves.

Here’s an example for you.

Perhaps you are a working mom and you are constantly trying to find ways to juggle your job, your responsibilities around the house and spending quality time with your kids. If you are applying an ROE strategy, one thing you might do is include your kids in some of your responsibilities around the home. That may mean;

  • Teaching them to do laundry by helping you sort/fold clothes together,

  • Volunteering to be the pick-up driver from their sports practice or game so you can spend time in the car catching up, or

  • Going for a walk or jog and invite them to ride their bikes along with you.

While these are simple ideas, they are ways of being connected to your kids while you accomplish some of your other responsibilities and tasks.  You’re expending the same amount of energy, but accomplishing two tasks. That’s some serious ROE!

What can you do to maximize your ROE?
